This fantasy artwork of a goddess in the glow of a big full moon, inspired the prose.
Moon Goddess art and prose by Carol Cavalaris.
Symbol of illumination
You reflect the mystery
And magic within ourselves
You show us our shadow selves
We see our conscious selves
We go through the cycles of life
Experiencing our lunar phases
From the full bloom of youth
To the fading glow of old age
Through calmness and storms
And with each new moon rising
We are reborn.
Very pleased to announce the artwork - Goddess Of Serenity, won Floral Pillow Of The Year.
A bearded iris painting in pastel shades of rose quartz and serenity blue, with matching butterflies made of iris petals. These colors are Pantone colors of the year for 2016. The two gentle shades were selected because of the modern stress in people's lives, with the rose quartz a warmer tone contrasted with the cool tranquil blue, reflecting wellness, with a calming connection of balance and peace.
This story and art was inspired by the shooting in San Bernadino, California, and to those who lost their lives and loved ones. Somewhere in this world of madness and innocence destroyed, there is a place of beauty, peace, and healing, if only in our dreams.
Beyond Fantasy art and prose by Carol Cavalaris.
Legend tells of a secret place
that can only be found
by those who follow rainbows
just beyond a fantasy
where great winged white lions
and gentle unicorns
live in peace
So far above it all
a pastel waterfall flows
bathing every living thing
in a healing chakra glow
and no matter how broken
a spirit may be
within this beauty
a heart will heal
and deep inside
like a forever
Story and art inspired by Brigitte's rose garden in France, and Brigitte's beautiful Snow Ballet rose, and her love for ballet.
Snow Rose Ballet story and art by Carol Cavalaris
One stormy day
two lovers quarreled
arguing their love away
but their dream was to
dance across a
gentle sky filled with roses
to feel the soft petals caress them
to inhale the intoxicating scent
to remember the joy they once felt
to know where love went.
Because dreams often come true
for those who believe
true love never really goes away
one day when the lovers cried
the storm clouds and sky turned
the softest hue
of pastel peach and pink
creamy white, and yellow, too
and then a very magical sight
the sky filled with roses
bathing the lovers in healing light.
And when the lovers
these special roses
when love died
tears that turned into snowflakes
gently caressing their face
with soft delicate flakes
that melted the coldness
in the lovers hearts
so much so
remembering how much
they truly cared
and together they began
a snow rose ballet
dancing their way
A beautiful rose called 'Snow Ballet' inspired this fantasy artwork that inspired the story.
Unicorn Rose Tree, art and story by Carol Cavalaris
Once upon a time
in a land of castles and unicorns
where all who lived there
believed in romance
and magic, too
a giant rose tree grew
Unlike any other
the rose tree was
bigger and more beautiful
than any rose tree ever
the trunk so sturdy and gnarled
it looked like it had been
Each rose bloomed so full
as if bursting with sunshine and bliss
so perfect in every way
scented with the sweet perfume
of a smile and a kiss.
And everywhere the petals fell
another blossom grew
and not a single thorn
gentle creatures gathered
beneath this enchanted tree
for every rose
seemed to be
the colors of a unicorn.
The whites so innocent and free
the pinks so tender and happy
year after year
beauty and hope reborn
with a healing light
growing from within
just like the heart
glowing within a unicorn.
Some people questioned
how could this be
where did this rose tree come from
what kept the rose tree going
must be a mystery from above
but, of course,
the unicorn knew
what made the rose tree bloom
and grow so strong
and live so long
no mystery from below or above
it was the magic of love.
Rainbow Dolphins swimming in rainbow-colored waves, pays tribute to the playful and joyful spirit of the dolphin, and inspired this artwork and story.
Rainbow Dolphins - A Colorful Tale
Once upon a curious
and most unusual day
in an ocean not so very far away
in their usual and contented way
jumped over waves
so happy in their play.
Quite suddenly a rainbow
arched across the sky
it must have been from the dolphins joy
reaching so very high.
The dolphins swam and laughed and
asked the rainbow to stay a while
as rainbows always made them smile
which made the rainbow smile, too
and glow with an even brighter hue.
Then the rainbow did something so enchanted
it simply had to be true
it plunged into the water
turning the waves
and dolphins into rainbows, too.
when joy reaches so high
into the sky
it turns into a rainbow
smile and ask it to stay
and let the magic flow through you
in happy healing waves of
red, orange, yellow, green, violet and
This artwork of colorful grapes and leaves, in shades of green, mauve, pink, peach, lavender and purple, growing abundantly on vines, pays tribute to the amazing beauty and abundance of nature. And the artwork inspired the prose.
Grapes Of Many Colors art and prose by Carol Cavalaris
Sometimes I wonder
what the world would be like
if people lived and grew
with all the glory
of grapes on a vine
each one unique
like a glowing orb
in its own universe
am I the best one in the bunch
giving everything they've got
showing all their many colors
with wild abandon.
This romantic painting of a man and woman kissing was inspired by the romance novel, 'Feel My Need', written by Carol Cavalaris, and is from the Passion Collection of art by Carol Cavalaris. The lyrics, which were inspired by the novel, were written by Carol Cavalaris and her singer/songwriter husband, L.J. Heart.
Through My Door Art by Carol Cavalaris. Lyrics by Carol Cavalaris and L.J. Heart.
She fell asleep within my arms last night
She fell in love some time before
But all her falling never brought her down
It only brought her through my door.
She spoke to me of things that few dare dream
Her words derived with care and choice
And as her loving sounds, took to the air
Warmth and beauty filled the void
And I love to have her near me
And I long to give her more
And as she pressed her breasts against me
I brought her through my door.
She felt weak and frightened when I held her near
She felt strong and also quite secure
But all her feeling only touched my heart
And brought her through my door.
And I love to have her near me
And I long to give her more
And as she pressed her breasts against me
I brought her through my door.
A romantic fantasy artwork of two lovers turned into swans inspired the story.
Sea Of Sorrows art and prose by Carol Cavalaris
An evil witch,
who didn't believe in love,
cast a spell over two young lovers,
turning them into black swans,
condemning them to
forever drift apart
on the sea of sorrows.
Through the darkest, coldest nights
season after season
storm after storm
only their song of longing
as faint as a whisper on the wind
carried their feelings to one another like a caress.
What the witch didn't know
Is that the power of love
can overcome even the strongest curse,
for the lovers never stopped caring and singing
and when they finally found one another
they rose above the dark green waters
ln an embrace that could never be broken again.
I've always found it interesting that the art I create has a life of its own. Like a child, I conceive it, nurture it, fret over it, love it with all my heart, and then at some point must release it into the world. And let the world have its way with it. Some art is adored, other art is ignored. And everything in-between. The Universe decides and I can only watch and hope for the best.
Eagle Red White Blue has had several exciting adventures so far. The art first became a print, and now resides in many homes around the world. It also resides on duvet covers, and pillows, shower curtains, tote bags and cell phones, going places and doing things I can't even imagine.
The art has been Blogged, Tweeted, Pinned, Facebooked, Instagramed, YouTubed, Linked, and yes, even used and abused in ways I don't want to know about. :o)
The Mountain put the art on a T-shirt, and it has traveled who knows where on people's bodies. The traveling didn't stop there, for a very patriotic veteran who loves eagles put the image on her vehicle as a car wrap. So it is now traveling faster than an eagle can fly. Then it landed on the ground, when a chalk artist was inspired to duplicate the image. He created a giant sidewalk drawing for a festival, to be enjoyed for only a moment in time before rain washed the eagle away forever.
Yes, Eagle Red White Blue has had a very exciting life so far, and we are both looking forward to the next adventure.
This dream catcher within a gnarled piece of wood, surrounded by spirit birds, is artwork and prose I created in June of 2012, to honor the passing of my husband and soul mate, LJ. I have been traveling my path of grief and healing for several years now, flying low and high along the way.
Over the years, each of these spirit birds has appeared to me in some way, physically coming into my world, invading my dreams, making themselves visible in symbols, all undeniable. And when my heart is open to their message, they bring courage, strength, hope, awareness, and even joy.
Dream Catcher - Spirit Birds, art and prose by Carol Cavalaris.
You come to me
From places unknown
Showing me I am not alone
Carrying your message
From somewhere high above
On magnificent wings of healing, hope, and love.
Eagle Spirit - symbol of power, courage and rebirth. You are the divine connection between creation and earth, carrying me to new heights of renewal and self-worth.
Hawk Spirit - symbol of intuition and insight, teaching me to trust my instinct, to know what is right, to be grateful for my talents and gifts and grow in the light
Falcon Spirit - symbol of possibilities and vision, you are my light that shines in the darkness, helping me see and realize my own dreams.
Osprey Spirit - symbol of healing energies and harmony, teaching me how to take care of and nurture myself, to embrace new opportunities and others with an open heart.
Raven Spirit - symbol of protection and renewal, warning me when danger is near and soothing my fear, teaching me that death, destruction, and darkness are not the end, but the beginning of rebirth, re-building, and new life
Owl Spirit - symbol of prophecy and wisdom, teaching me to see and understand what may be hidden, showing me how to embrace the changes that are to come.
The rose is a symbol of love, and so I have done this Rose series in some of the shades of love we experience in a lifetime. I added the butterflies because love is shared by two.
Colors include: Antique Rose, celebrating love remembered forever, Pastel Rose, celebrating first love, Purple Rose, celebrating the passion of love, and Rainbow Rose, celebrating the many colors of love, that can be as vibrant as a rainbow, and as momentary.
Rainbow Rose and Butterflies is also a tribute to the love of my life, LJ, who passed 9 years ago. Today would have been our 37th wedding anniversary. We were married on a big brass bed, literally. With the minister standing at the foot and LJ and I kneeling on the bed, saying our vows. And that was the beginning of a very colorful relationship.

This artwork and story is a tribute to two beautiful white lions, Kato, and lioness, Kenia. Brother and sister, these magnificent white lions grew up happily together until a sudden illness took them both. They were only 6, and Kato went first, and Kenia followed him a week later. I created this artwork to honor their beauty and spirits, and because I like to think of them, together forever, beneath the acacia tree.
Beneath The Acacia Tree, art and prose by Carol Cavalaris
Two white lions
My precious ones
And dream of
Your glory days
Of growing together
In the summer sun
So young and free
Like wild flowers
Beneath the acacia tree.
Your spirit so grand
Fills the clouds and sky
You will always be
A part of the river
And the land.
So young and free
Like wild flowers
Beneath the acacia tree
I recently finished this custom cover art for 'Rez Dog',the latest novel written by Tom Frye. Rocket, and pup, Ghost, are pit bull characters in a story with a great theme about not raising this breed to be fighting dogs.
Tom had seen some of my art on t-shirts, and he contacted me to create the cover art. I agreed to do the project, and he was writing an email to explain what he wanted, and to enclose an image he got off the web, of what his vision was for the cover. As he was looking at the image, which was wolves within a dreamcatcher, he suddenly realized the art that had inspired him was mine. This blew him away because he had contacted me without knowing I was the artist. What a wonderful moment we had enjoying the serendipity of our coming together.
Here is a blurb from Tom's book, 'Rez Dog'.
The thunder beings were active the night he was born on Pine Ridge. The Pit bull pup was named Wakinyan tonwapi, meaning the source of thunder and lighting in Lakota. But his DEA handler simply called him Rocket. In his ten year service as a DEA sniffer dog, Rocket alerted to millions of dollars worth of drugs belonging to Mexican cartels. Upon his retirement, Rocket is placed at a dog sanctuary run by dog trainer, Chade Long Soldier, located in Seward, Nebraska. When the dog is stolen by a cartel leader, the race is on to save him.

Seven ravens, on and around a dream catcher, pays tribute to the mysterious beauty, magic, and wisdom of the raven, in story and art.
Raven Dreams art and prose by Carol Cavalaris
In a dream
where the starlit sky is
violet and blue
and the moon is full
seven midnight ravens
came to visit
each with a message
so strong and so true
with wings the colors of the sky
telling me to embrace
to stop asking why
to believe I am where I belong
in the right moment and time
to become all that I dream
and know I can fly.
reflecting the colors
of the moon
Illuminating the night
telling me there is
a divine balance
between darkness and light
that I need both to guide me
through the transitions of life
with words spoken
loud and clear
by myself and others
telling me to listen and
that it is important
to hear what I need.
silent and introspective
telling me to find comfort
in the quiet
for within the solitude
of my own thoughts
is the healing wisdom
that I seek.
Ravens Five and Six
standing strong together
two lovers united
against all fates
telling me no matter
they will travel through
time and space
learning to survive
even to thrive
sometimes with laughter
sometimes with cries
telling me to accept
what has been
that love never dies
to embrace what is now
and what is to be
and know love
is always within me.
A collection of my healing art for the body, mind, and spirit. Includes chakras, healing flowers, goddesses, dream catchers, and healing places and moods. Featuring the art of Carol Cavalaris, and the music of Carol Cavalaris & L.J. Heart.
My husband, LJ, and I were soulmates. When we met he was a singer/songwriter and I was an artist and writer. We shared an amazing creative and passionate relationship for 30 years. Sadly, LJ died of a sudden heart attack. Every year, for the past nine years, on the anniversary of his passing, I pay tribute to him and our relationship with some new art. This is the most recent art and prose created in June of this year.
Unicorn Soulmates - Universe Of Lavender Blue, art and prose by Carol Cavalaris
There is a legend of
two lost lovers
who find each other on
one summer night
when the iridescent moon
is so radiant and full
it turns into a precious pearl
illuminating their universe in lavender blue
Some say it is only a fantasy
the romantic dream of a fool
but only those who understand
the love of a soulmate
know the legend is true
And on this one magic night
the lovers turn into unicorns
their hearts so radiant and full
as they run
across their universe of lavender blue
when the luster of the moon
begins to fade
they must part
the other staying
another year apart
but in their heart
their love beats
strong and true
in their universe of
When my husband passed I lost my soulmate. We now live in different worlds and my desire to be with him once again inspired this artwork and prose.
In Your World art and prose by Carol Cavalaris
I will wear a wild disguise
a mask to hide my eyes
to be like you
to be with you
for one moment
one precious escape
traveling through time and space
in your arms
in your loving embrace
Let me feel mysteries unfold
in your world.
This artwork of blue wolves in the moonlight inspired this story.
Legend Of The Blue Wolf art and prose by Carol Cavalaris
There is a legend told among those
who have gazed into the eyes
of the Blue Wolf.
Of how this creature of mystery walks silently
through the shimmering mist of moonlight
among the ancient spirits of the forest.
Gathering wisdom forged from the fires of experience
so that she can return again and teach us
all she has come to know.
She tells those who are wise enough to listen
that within each of us lives the spirit of the wolf.
A flame that burns for knowledge, for freedom.
A soul that leaves the comfort of the pack
to travel the world of the unknown.
Singing the haunting song of life's refrain.
Crying to be heard in the darkness.
Stumbling, walking, running through obstacles and fears.
Learning to trust our instincts.
And ultimately, to embrace the journey.
I've always found it fascinating how many different people we are in a lifetime and that thought inspired this artwork of a lion from birth to old age. And the artwork inspired the prose.
Seasons Of The Lion art and prose by Carol Cavalaris.
I am old now
Tired and scarred
From many battles
Lost and won
I am wise now
As I gaze upon
The tiny cub so curious in Spring
The young lion so proud in Summer
The mighty king so strong in Autumn
The old one so weary in Winter
And I sigh in wonder
As I reflect upon
The seasons of my life
And I smile
At all that I have been.
Painting of a beautiful woman with wild long red hair blowing in the wind inspired this prose.
Wild Red Wind, art and prose by Carol Cavalaris.
She blew into his cold dark world
Like a wild red wind
A fire on the wind
An unstoppable storm headed straight for his heart
Burning him up
Turning him to ash
Sucking away his oxygen
Until all he could do was
And heaven help him
Fall into her firestorm.
I am an artist and a fiction writer, so I often create art that inspires a story, or a story that inspires art. This artwork, Legend Of The White Raven, inspired a story.
Legend Of The White Raven art and story by Carol Cavalaris
An ancient legend tells of a miserly Chief who stole the sun, the stars, and the moon for himself, and the world grew cold and darker than a raven's wings. Soon all life began to die. People were so frightened and confused they even blamed this evil on the black raven. The raven did not like that humans thought him responsible for this dark magic and death, for in his heart he was pure with good intentions, and his spirit was innovative, and often playful, and his very being was a creature of creation. His true purpose was to become one with humans and guide them on a spirit path of changes leading to healing the inner self.
Though the raven knew the journey would not be easy, he also knew he could not change circumstances without taking risks and so he set out to find the miserly Chief. He did not eat or sleep for more dark days and nights than he could count. He couldn't see and followed his intuition. Belief in his purpose kept his tired wings moving. And when he didn't think he could take one more breath, he finally came upon the miserly Chief.
The Chief had been drawing energy from the sun, stars, and moon, and was very strong in his body, but weak in his soul. The raven was weak in his body, but strong in his spirit. A great battle ensued, for the Chief did not want to give up his treasures, even though they did not belong to him. Alas, it was a fight to the death.
Broken and bleeding, and barely alive, the raven took back the sun, stars, and moon and with his last breath, returned them to the sky. And then he fell to earth, unable to fly and waiting for the end. But for him it was a new beginning, for the moon beamed down and bathed him in healing light, turning the raven's black feathers pure white, as white as the moon. And from that moment on, the raven would never be feared. Instead he would be a messenger of strength, survival, change, and eternal hope, for he had brought light, peace, and life back to the world.
I am an artist and a fiction writer, so I often create art that inspires a story, or a story that inspires art. Here is Wild Goddess - Tigress, art that inspired a story.
Wild Goddess - Tigress, art and story by Carol Cavalaris
There is a strange story
is it true
impossible to know
about an exotic flower
rare and unknown
not another in the universe
she grows alone
inside a jungle
beyond the imagination
in the sunlit shadows
this wild iris grows
by the bravest souls.
If you gaze upon
her untamed beauty
you will see colors
you have never seen before
alas, I know you will not
heed this warning
you will want more
so much more.
If you dare
inhale her intoxicating scent
if you stare
into her tigress eyes
as I know you must
you will want to tame her
to keep her for your own
Sadly for you
She will be the last to hear your cries
for this wild iris goddess
only grows alone.
