There is an ancient olive tree
high on a hill
bent and growing in a garden
that is very old
where only gentle doves go
to gather beneath the leaves
and sample the olives, I'm told
some say the tree
is haunted by souls
of those who
long for peace
no one really knows
if the story is true
but if you look close
you may see a spirit in
the gnarled trunk shadows
a face that only shows
to those who can hear
the winds of change blow.

An ancient olive tree, gnarled and bent from age, with a spirit peace face in the trunk, and doves gathered below. This mixed media painting was inspired by my fascination with the beauty, strength and spirit of trees. And the story was inspired by the art. I live in the middle of a forest in the high country of Colorado. It is the wild beauty of my surroundings that inspires my mixed medium paintings of wildlife and nature. I grew up in Southern California and have been creating since childhood, always drawing, painting or making something. I have enjoyed many creative adventures, including sculpting, stained glass art, being a display artist, an interior designer, a graphic artist, a copywriter, a songwriter, a novelist, and a creative director.
